Day 1 - May 24, 2004
Trenton – Camden – Vineland

Breakfast:
President’s House, Piscataway

Morning:
Bus ride to Trenton: "New Jersey Politics 101” presentation

Guided tour of the State House, Old Barracks Museum, and the city of Trenton

Lunch:
    • Discussion of the rewards and challenges of operating a family-owned small business

Afternoon:
Travel by N.J. Transit’s River LINE to Camden

        Train ride to Camden: "South Jersey Preview” presentation

Guided walking tour of Rutgers–Camden campus and Camden Court House;
bus tour of waterfront

Dinner
    • President McCormick will facilitate a discussion with government and
      civic leaders on the following questions:
          What makes the southern region of the state unique?
          What issues face the leadership in the southern portion of the state?

Day 2 - May 25, 2004
Bridgeton
– Atlantic City – Pinelands region – Lambertville

Morning:
Visit Centerton Nursery, Bridgeton

        Exploration of one of New Jersey’s key agricultural industries

Bus ride to Atlantic City

        "Vegetable-Growing Industry in New Jersey” presentation
    • "New Jersey History 101” presentation

Tour Caesars Casino/Hotel, Atlantic City

Lunch:
    • Presentation on the role of casinos in the redevelopment of the Atlantic City region

Afternoon:
Guided bus tour of Atlantic City

Guided bus ride through the Pinelands region

        "Pinelands Environment and Open Space” presentation

Dinner:
    • President McCormick will lead a discussion with mayors and other officials
        about the challenges of local government in New Jersey

Delaware and Raritan Canal – Bedminster – Allamuchy – Morristown

Morning:
Guided bus tour along the Delaware and Raritan Canal

    • "History of New Jersey’s Canals” presentation

Tour and lunch at AT&T’s Global Network Operations Center, Bedminster

        AT&T and the future of telecommunications presentation

Bus ride to Allumuchy
    • Discussion of New Jersey demographics and economics

Afternoon:
Tranquillity Farms, Allamuchy

        Discussion of sprawl, "smart growth,” and agriculture

Bus ride to Morristown

Dinner:
    • An evening of South Asian culture and cuisine

Paterson – Newark – Weehawken

Morning:
Visit John F. Kennedy High School, Paterson

    • Conversation with students and teachers about the challenges of
      K-12 education in an urban district

Tour Paterson Falls

Guided tour of Newark arts district

Bus ride to Newark

    • Discussion on transformation of New Jersey over the course of the
       19th and 20th centuries

Lunch:
    • Presentation on Newark’s arts renaissance

Afternoon:
Guided tour of University Heights and Rutgers–Newark campus

Dinner:
    • Casual evening

Hudson Waterfront – New Brunswick – Piscataway

Morning:
Board ferry at Weehawken, dock at Jersey City

        Discussion of the port and waterfront in regional economic development

Afternoon:
Guided tour of the New Jersey Turnpike, exits 14 through 9

Visit Johnson & Johnson World Headquarters, New Brunswick

        Discussion of New Brunswick/Piscataway as a regional, national, and
      international focal point of the health care sector

Family barbecue for participants and family members at the President’s House, Piscataway
